Cannot find 1.jpg

When I try to use panocube with a 2400x1200 jpeg or tiff image, I get the error message "can't open C:\Panocube\1.jpg" then "Could not read result image C:\Panocube\1.jpg" As far as I can tell, it's not even momentarily creating a file with that name.

What can I do to correct this?
